Fire Up for Fall Week 2 Update

This is the second update for Fire Up for Fall, and I'm happy to say that 1.4 pounds disappeared since yesterday, down to 251!  TOM went away and my normal good mood came back.  I've lived alone since my divorce 13 years ago, with the exception of  1-1/2 years in South Carolina and I can't remember ever being as lonely as I was last week.  I've normally been happy alone, which is why I haven't worked too hard to change it.  But for the past month something is different in my head and now it's a priority.  Funny how things click like that.  Weight loss for me has been the same.  Wake up one morning and it works because something has clicked.

Here's my positive picture - maybe only for me, LOL!  I'm going to get a pedicure when I get below 250.  It's so close, only 1+ pound to go to the first reward!  Maybe some evening this week or this weekend, these tootsies are going to be shiny and bright pink.
Now for this week's questions:
1. What have you done this week to help you achieve your goals?  I worked out 4/7 days and stayed mostly under my calorie limit.  It was mediocre, but I'm going for consistency rather than superstardom.
2. What have you done to make yourself feel fabulous?   On Thursday I went out to a beer meetup and interacted with peeps I like.  I want to do better on making myself feel fabulous this week.
3. What is your talent? What are you good at?  I'm good at breaking down big problems and deciding what to do.  Also good at making decisions.  I'm the one that sees what's going to happen and starts to do something before anyone else realizes.  Yeah, so it comes from having an alcoholic parent, but something good had to come from it!
4. What's been the highlight of your week, toot your horn, what are you proud of !  I'm proud that I didn't binge last week, or drink too much, even though I had a tough week, PMS-wise.  I maintained the consistency that I'm shooting for and still got a loss for the week.
5. Fun Question: What's your guilty pleasure TV? Entertainment Tonight and Inside Edition, celebrity news shows.

So, let's talk about internet dating for a moment.  First, I get that like attracts like.  When I'm uncomfortable in my skin and expecting to be rejected, that's what I get.  With my growing sense of confidence, I jumped in again last week and emailed a few guys and responded to a few that emailed me.  I'm meeting one for coffee after work tomorrow.  He's not a great emailer, but he's got degrees and a career in international taxation, so he's got to be a decent communicator to have made it as far as he has.  I've met a few doozies in the last few years because I've given people the benefit of the doubt like this.

I also emailed someone that I went out to dinner with 2 years ago and we'll get together later this week for dinner again.  He's 5'6" and 29 (way shorter than me and way younger than me), but really smart and we've got a 91% match percent, so we agree on all the important things.  Apparently he's got a hot tub now because he invited me Saturday, then again last night.  I'd rather have dinner with him first, so the first time I see him isn't in the hot tub!  I made excuses both times and went for dinner plans instead.  It was an opportunity to be assertive about my boundaries but I didn't take it.

Then, I emailed briefly with a teacher.  He teaches phys ed and coaches after school.  He wanted to go to text right away, and I waited a few days before giving him my number.  So then, I get a text from him at 10:30 Saturday night with a picture of his .... dick.  First text ever from him, and all he can say is "how would you like to suck this?"  Ummm, how about no freakin way?

I'm emailing with someone who seems like a happy guy.  Love that!  He doesn't have any degrees, but then neither did my ex husband or any other guy I've had relationships with.  I like 'em real.  I've been trying to move towards guys with degrees, because less of them seem to be train wrecks, but a big pickup truck makes me melt.

Also emailed someone who looks at my profile every few days.  He spends a whole paragraph in his profile saying don't email him if you're overweight, but geez, why is he looking at mine so much then?  I have full body pics up.  So I emailed him anyway.  He didn't answer.  Jerk. (Last summer I met a firefighter who only wanted a girl to be in shape, but then we went out a few times and he definitely liked me.  I just wasn't feeling it with him.  He did change his profile though after meeting me!)  After I'm an amazon goddess, I'm SO tempted to write in my profile that "all you guys that weren't interested in me when I was 50 pounds heavier, don't bother contacting me now.  I'm the same person I was, just thinner.  You deserve all the shallow people you get."  I know - catty.  Internet dating drives me nuts sometimes!

  1. Good for you for jumping into internet dating! I married a co-worker but only after internet dating for a couple of years - I met plenty of nice, normal guys that I wouldn't have crossed paths with otherwise. And great job on the loss this week!

  3. Any binge-victory is worth celebrating. Yes!!!!

What we want in men: I wanted to be with a scientist or engineer since I was 12. No kidding. I had every intention of going to the Bronx High School of Science (was accepted, but dad moved to Miami, dashing my dreams of going there and being surrounded by my ideal guys and studying astophysics in high school). Turned out dad, did me a favor. Met my dream prince-engineer and happy as clams still 29 years later. I always knew I wanted a smartie, and that was non-negotiable. Degree doesn't mean smart or good, but I wanted high I.Q. to have great deep thoughts with. He's my Renaissance Dude--composes music, has multiple patents, has authored a textbook, plays multiple instruments--and I'm never ever ever bored, not once since 1982. Have even had waitresses/waiters comment on our restaurant conversations. I have to carry pen and paper so he can scribble down ideas (and sometimes for me, scribble down story or poem ideas/phrases).

I think the thing is to know what you want. I knew what I wanted...a seriously religious but science-minded, family-centered dude. Not always easy to find that, but hubby once wanted to be a priest, ended up a Software Architect, and respected his and my family's to the highest degree. That's my perfect combo. My best friend of 2 decades was an engineer..so I think I just gravitate to those personalities. Me, the teen who fantasized about MIT professors, not jocks or actors. ; )

Just know what is important to you in a guy and for lifelong happiness--what REALLY matters-- and the rest is negotiable. I couldn't negotiate religion or smarts, but height/weight/coloring/ethnicity/income, all that was negotiable/not important. I've dated poor, rich, inbetween. Homely, handsome, ordinary. Tall, short. Skinny, fat.

You'll find the right one. Eyes open, mind clear, non-negotiables in order. Best with finding your soulmate.
